CHARLES CLAYDON (1862 - 1932) & SARAH COLLINS
Charles Claydon was the sixth child of Henry Claydon & Ann Manks. He was born between the end of 1861 and the beginning of 1862. His birth was registered in the Meriden district in Warwickshire [FreeBMD Birth Index: “Charles Clayden, 1st quarter 1862, Meriden, Vol. 6D pg. 355"]. In 1861, the family was living in Sheldon, which is a few miles north of Solihull and west of the town of Meriden in the Meriden registration district, Coleshill sub-registration district (when Henry and Ann married in 1851, they were staying at a place on Coleshill Street).

In 1879, Charles Claydon with father Henry went to Liverpool, probably by train, and boarded the steamship SS Wyoming as steerage passengers. They arrived about ten days later at Castle Garden port of New York on July 9, 1879. They were probably preparing the way for the rest of the family by locating a residence and finding work. On November 26, 1879, Ann Claydon and children Burlton, Clara, Herbert, Nora, Percival, and Rose arrived at New York City. A few months later, son William arrived in New York on April 17, 1880, on the steamship City of Chester.
