This is a receipt ticket for the purchase of one ton of coal in ten sacks, 224 lbs. per sack, by a Mr. Clayton of 15 Kinnerton St., Wilton Place, sold by Frederick W. Helmore & Charles Smith, office at 151 B. Piccadilly, on April 19, 1848. Since James Claydon and company did not arrive in New York until August 31, 1848, this may be for Thomas Claydon, who arrived in November of 1846.
