MANKS AND PROCTOR FAMILIES

The Manks-Proctor families tied into the Claydon-Bentley family trees with the marriage of Henry Claydon and Ann Manks on September 26, 1850, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Birmingham, England. According to the marriage certificate, Ann’s father was John Manks, a tailor.

In the FreeBMD Death Index is "Francis Proctor, 4th quarter 1842, Stratford-upon-Avon, Vol. 16, pg. 342".

Proctor
English (northern): occupational name from Middle English prok(e)tour ‘steward’ (reduced from Old French procurateour, Latin procurator ‘agent’, from procurare ‘to manage’). The term was used most commonly of an attorney in a spiritual court, but also of other officials such as collectors of taxes and agents licensed to collect alms on behalf of lepers and enclosed orders of monks. [Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4].

Zipporah
Jewish: common female form of the rare Hebrew male name Zippor meaning “bird”. The female name is borne in the Bible by the wife of Moses and mother of Gershom and Eliezer (Exodus 18: 2-4). [A Dictionary of First Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0192800507]

Based on the information found so far, the Proctor & Manks family outlines looks like this:

    1. Zipporah PROCTOR, christened on 1/19/1794.
