NICHOLAS CLAYDON (1721-1795) & JOHANNA FRANKLIN (1725-1798)

Nicholas Claydon was born about 1721 probably in Oxfordshire, England, in the area of Fringford, which is a small farming village about four miles north-northeast of Bicester. According to Oxfordshire parish transcripts, Nicholas married Johannah Franklin in Fringford on October 28, 1748 [IGI and parish transcripts]. Between 1748 and 1771, they had at least nine children. The transcripts show that Nicholas was buried in Fringford on September 6, 1795, at the age of 74; and widow Johannah was buried there on May 7, 1798.

According to the Fringford parish church records transcribed into books at the Oxford County Library, the earliest known Claydon first appears on July 23, 1721 with the baptism of John, son of John and Elizabeth Cleydon. John & Elizabeth may be the parents of Nicholas, but a baptism record was not found. However, the first son of Nicholas was named John. Then, on September 27, 1725, there was the baptism of Joanna, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Franklin.
