SARATOGA Surrogate’s Court. LETTERS TESTAMENTARY OF THE Last Will and Testament Of Charity V. Claydon Deceased. Daily “Saratogian” Print, Saratoga Springs. I, Charity V. Claydon, of Greenfield, Saratoga County, New York, being of sound mind and memory, do make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, that is to say: First, After all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, I give, devise and bequeath to Charles W. Greene, my cousin, one good bed, bedstead, and sufficient bedding for the same: - said bed to be my best bed. To my friend Mrs. Eliza Fitchner, my lightest brown worsted dress. To Temperance Greene, my darkest brown worsted dress + second best calico dress. To Hattie E. Wood, my best Alpaca dress: + best calico dress + my black silk shawl. To Temperance Greene: my best woolen shawl + my black Alpaca shawl + six silver tea spoons. To Hattie E. Wood my three large table spoons + (best) + and the best piece of grey cloth not made up, now in the house: the remainder of the cloth not made up, to go to Mrs. Eliza Fitchener – The remainder of my wearing apparel to be divided: and two thirds thereof to belong to Temperance Greene, and one third to Hattie E. Wood. In regard to all other personal property of which I have been possessed: I desire that it remain merged in and connected with that of my husband James Claydon to whom I bequeath it in full if he survives me – and in case of my own decease first, I desire it to be subject to the provisions of his will and testament, in all respects as if it were his individual property. Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint Benjamin S. Robinson of Greenfield, Saratoga County, New York, to be executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the 28th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six Charity V. Claydon [L.S.] The above instrument consisting of one sheet, was at the date thereof subscribed by Charity V. Claydon in the presence of us and each of us: she at the time of making such subscription, acknowledged that she made the same, and declared the said instrument so subscribed by her to be her last will and testament whereupon we then and there, at her request, and in her presence and the presence of each other, subscribed our names as witness thereto. Waldron Surrogate. County of Saratoga, Surrogate’s Office, Be it remembered that on the day of the date hereof, the last will and testament of Charity V. Claydon – Late of the town of Greenfield in said county, deceased, bearing date the twenty eighth day of February 1876 of which the annexed is a true copy, was duly proved before Cornelius A. Waldron, Surrogate of the said county, according to law, as and for the last will and testament of the personal estate of the said deceased, which said last will and testament and the proofs and examinatons taken in relation thereto, are recorded in this office, in Book of Wills, No. 24, pages 381.H. In testimony whereof, the Surrogate of said county hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal of office the twenty second day of May 1876. (sealed)(signed) C.A. Waldron Surrogate. Be it remembered that on the day of the date hereof, letters testamentary were duly granted to Benjamin S. Robinson, executor of the last will and testament of Charity V. Claydon, late of the town of Greenfield in said county, deceased, he having first duly taken and subscribed, an oath faithfully and honestly to discharge the duties of executor of the said will. In testimony whereof, the Surrogate of said county hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal of office the twenty second day of May 1876. (sealed)(signed) C.A. Waldron Surrogate. The People of the State of New York, By the grace of God, free and independent: To all whom these presents shall come or may concern, Send Greeting, Know Ye, That on the twenty second day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six at the village of Saratoga Springs in the county of Saratoga, before CORNELIUS A. WALDRON, Esquire, Surrogate of said county, the last will and testament of Charity V. Claydon late of the town of Greenfield in said county, deceased, (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed,) was proved and is now approved and allowed by us. And the said deceased having, whilst she lived, and at the time of her death, goods, chattels or credits within this State, by means whereof the proving and registering the said will, and the granting administration of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, and also the auditing, allowing and final discharging the accounts thereof doth belong to us: The administration of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, and any way concerning her said will, is granted unto Benjamin S. Robinson the Executor in said will named he being first duly sworn well and faithfully to administer the same, and also make and exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, and to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto required. In Testimony Whereof, We have caused the Seal of office of our said Surrogate to be hereunto affixed. WITNESS, Cornelius A. Waldron, Esq., Surrogate of said county, at the village aforesaid, the twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six and of our independence the one hundredth.
