In human genetics, an asterisk in a person's genealogical DNA test result indicates that they are a member of a particular haplogroup, but not of a currently classified subclade.

Haplogroup: In the study of molecular evolution, a haplogroup is a group of similar haplotypes that share a common ancestor with a single nucleotide polymorphism mutation. Because a haplogroup consists of similar haplotypes, this is what makes it possible to predict a haplogroup from haplotypes.

Other Sub-Clades of R1b: DYS repeats of 24/10 are found throughout Europe and repeats of 23/10 are slightly higher in SE Germany and into Austria.
