CHALLENGER, 1881 British Census: Church Terrace, Cheadle, Stafford, ENG. It would appear that Francis J. Miller's apprentice from 1859, William Challenger, was successful. As suggested by this census entry, William's father probably died and his mother remarried to the JAMES family and relocated. William is staying at his step-father's house with wife, children and step brothers and sisters. A Publican is an innkeeper or fee collector. | |||||||
