SPRINGER FAMILY NOTES

According to the website of Dave Springer (www.daveSpringer.com), the Springer family probably originated in England. In the early to mid-1600's, John Springer married Margaret ?. They settled in Barbados, West Indies, and had two known children, one of which was Lawrence Springer (d. 1701/3), who was baptized in 1647. Lawrence moved to Little Compton, Bristol County, MA (later known as Rhode Island). He married Martha Hicks. According to FamilySearch.org's Ancestral File, they had several children, including John Springer (b. 1670/1 in Little Compton, RI). John married Elizabeth Case. They had several children, including James Springer (b. about 1698 in Little Compton, RI). James married Joanna Low. James' son John (b. about 1724/30) married Hannah (Trufant?) (b. in Berwick, ME, which is about a dozen miles NNW of Little Compton). It seems that around this time they moved about 80 miles northeast up the coast to Georgetown, Maine. One of their children, John, was born about 1762. He married Susannah (Googins?) about 1784. They had several children, including David T. Springer (b. 12/23/1798 in Hancock, Hancock Co., ME). Some sources say that the middle initial of David's name, T, stands for Trufant, which is supposedly the family of David's grandmother, Hannah. David married Lovisa White. Lovisa (aka Louisa), is a descendant of Revolutionary War soldier Tilley White [DAR Patriot Index, members.dar.org: a private from MA, born 9/3/1736, d. 2/14/1810, spouse 1: Keturah Somes, spouse 2: Tamson Willey].
