Here are my favorite galaxies that I found via the GalaxyZoo.org million-galaxy classification project of July 2007. The images are all from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), www.sdss.org. The most interesting kinds are the mergers and collisions. Next, are various spiral and elliptical galaxies. Click on the 18-digit reference number to see the SDSS page for that galaxy, then click on their image for more details. MERGERS AND COLLISIONS There are millions of galaxies scattered far across the universe. As they drift and spin about, galaxies sometimes get close enough to each other to interact, stretching and compacting, circling around, and finally merging into a larger galaxy. Here are a small selection of galaxies caught in the act of colliding and merging. Most are tens to hundreds of millions of light years away, and the dance of colliding galaxies takes place over a few billion years. Click on the reference number for more details from the SDSS website. SPIRAL GALAXIES IRREGULAR AND OTHER GALAXIES
